Homeowners Insurance in Ohio is now available thanks to Hippo.

We’ve been hard at work to expand into Ohio, offering its nearly 11.6 million residents smart home coverage for their houses and condos, this month. And, I’m excited to say that today we crossed the finish line.

I’d love to say that the Cincinnati Zoo’s famous little hippo, Fiona, was behind our push to expand into the state. And believe me, her smiling photos certainly made for great wallpaper on our desktops, but it was actually the needs of the Ohio homeowners that really brought us to the state. While Cavaliers’ fans will always root to Defend the Land win or lose, we’re here to help them protect their properties.

Dealing with snow and ice storms during the winter, and hurricane winds and flooding in spring and summer means homeowners in Ohio are no strangers to natural disasters. While most homeowners have outdated policies that may not offer them the coverage they need for common regional issues like frozen pipes (thanks ice storms), internal water damage or even appliance repairs. So, Hippo developed coverages that fit Ohio residents’ needs, including equipment (appliance) breakdown, service line protection and 4x more coverage on electronics than most of our competitors offer today.

The average Ohio homeowner spends $969 on home insurance each year, which is lower than the national average (though if you'll pay more if you get home insurance in Columbus). But that doesn’t make an $900+ bill any easier to swallow, particularly if it doesn’t actually cover your property when your pipes freeze, and you’re stuck with a plumbing bill you didn’t plan into your budget for the year. So, we also made sure that our rates were, on average, lower than our competitors in the state and offered Ohio’s residents another way to save on a necessary expense.

Hippo gives homeowners the opportunity to save up to 25% on their premiums, which comes to about $100 per year. That’s four trips to the Cincinnati Zoo to see Fiona, or a family trip to watch the Cavaliers play live.CLICK TO TWEET
